Markus Schläpfer is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Senseable City Lab, MIT. His research focusses on the understanding of complex socio-technical interactions in urban regions, by harnessing digital traces of the collective human behavior. The insights gained will eventually help designing efficient and sustainable cities. Markus Schläpfer holds a M.Sc. degree in Environmental Engineering and a Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering, both from ETH Zurich. During the doctoral studies he stayed several months as a visiting researcher at the Institute for Mathematical Sciences, Imperial College London. Markus Schläpfer co-authored several articles in leading scientific journals and conferences.
