Henrik Sandell has served as advanced technology architect, startup and corporate executive in operations and technology, researcher, and consultant. He is Research Scientist at the MIT Media Lab Human Dynamics Group where he is conducting research on trust frameworks for mobile health monitoring, as well as CTO/COO of ID3 (Institute for Institutional Innovation by Data Driven Design Inc.).
A rigorous and analytic thinker with broad operational experience, he understands how to pragmatically apply leading edge technologies to implement innovative business models. He has a history of gaining competitive advantage over larger and better capitalized competitors, enhancing performance through partnerships and outsourcing, streamlining processes, and increasing efficiencies. He has worked with organizations in the financial services, media, education, health care, retail, manufacturing, and transportation industries.
He consulted to the Law Lab at Harvard’s Berkman Center for Internet and Society, developing a core technical architecture and overseeing software development for the Trust Framework platform. He chairs the Board of Advisors for Philanthropist.org, a volunteer driven organization that allows people to become philanthropists through its micro-finance platform. Henrik was Vice President of Marketing at Liberty Medical, with primary responsibility for Liberty’s $65M advertising budget as well as marketing systems, data, and analytics. Liberty Medical was acquired by Medco Health Solutions (MHS). Previously, he was COO of Acadient, an online education company and a successful turnaround, and a founding executive of Fidelity Investment’s Insurance.com. Insurance.com was acquired by Quinstreet (QNST). Earlier, he co-founded an Internet-focused knowledge management and online publishing venture. He has also held positions with Coopers & Lybrand Consulting (now IBM Global Services), Lotus Development Corporation, and GTE Laboratories.
Dr. Sandell earned a Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University on a Fulbright grant, and an M.Sc. degree from the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden.
