Abdullah Abukhwejah is currently a research specialist at the Center for Complex Engineering Systems CCES at King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He started his career by earning a bachelor degree in Aeronautical Engineering from King Abdulaziz University KAU in Saudi Arabia in 2009. During his studies, Abdullah worked on renewable energy by designing a vertical axis wind turbine VAWT for the capstone project and then worked for the Aerodynamics Laboratory on both subsonic and supersonic wind tunnel testing.

Abdullah's interests are in dynamic systems modeling and simulation, mathematical modeling, flight mechanics, flight dynamics, and control. Besides that, he is interested in multidisciplinary approaches for the interaction between mechanical and control systems.

Since joining CCES, he has been working on the Urban Transportation System project (UTS) in which he is developing a microscopic traffic simulation model for a sub network in Riyadh city to solve signal control problem in order to increase the efficiency of the sub network by allowing the highest possible vehicles flow across all intersections. This is achieved by implementing a simulation-based optimization framework that is computationally efficient and suitable for such complex simulations.
